On the 21st November 2002, 47 sports physiotherapists gathered in Magglingen and formed the Swiss Sports Physiotherapy Association (SSPA).

On the 21st November 2002, 47 sports physiotherapists gathered in Magglingen and formed the Swiss Sports Physiotherapy Association (SSPA). The SSPA, a non-profit organisation, now has about 600 qualified physiotherapists who are specialised or work in the area of sport physiotherapy. Since 2004, the SSPA is supported by the Swiss Association of Physiotherapy (SPV), and is recognised as an expert groupd and is a member of the International Federation of Sports Physical Therapy (IFSPT) which is part of the World Confederation of Physical Therapy (WCPT). The SSPA represents the interests of its members towards the SPV, and maintains contact with the Swiss Olympic Association, with sports governing bodies in Switzerland and abroad, as well as with sports medical partners.


The mission of the SSPA board is to promote excellence in Swiss sports physical therapy practice, research, education, and professional development.


Under the name "Schweizerischer Verband für Sportphysiotherapie" (Swiss Association for Sports Physiotherapy), there is an association within the meaning of Art. 60 et seq. of the Swiss Civil Code (ZGB) based at the place of residence of the President. The Association shall determine the following.

Ethics

The physiotherapy group of the IOC health care commission recommends the following ethical guidelines for physical therapists, athletes and sports men and women.

Mission

The Swiss Association for Sports Physiotherapy (SVSP) specialises as a competent partner in the SPV on issues of Sports Physiotherapy.
